This was tested using an iMac (21.5-inch, Mid 2011) 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 with MacOS High Sierra 10.13.6 installed. The flash drive needs to be at least 8 GB in size. The Snow Leopard ISO file was the same as discussed in this answer, which should be the same ISO you have linked to in your question.

Note: This flashdrive will be using the Apple Partition Map scheme. This differs from the flash drive created using the Disk Utility, which used the Master Boot Record scheme. In other words, there is more than one way to create a USB flash drive installer from a Snow Leopard ISO file.

I have a 2008 MacBook Air (MB003LL/A / MacBookAir1,1 / A1237 / 2142), and I am trying to reformat it with OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, using the retail install DVD image snowleopard_10a432_userdvd.dmg restored to a USB flash drive with Disk Utility. I do not have an external DVD drive to use.

You can't just "copy" or restore the image to the USB flash, you have to format and partition it first. See How to Create a Bootable USB Drive With OS X Snow Leopard for a good tutorial on how to do just that.

I thought it would be useful to put the Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard installer on a USB flash drive. It would be faster than reading from a DVD. I can use it with a Macbook Air or Pro Retina which do not come with a DVD drive. And the USB flash drive is more portable and robust than a DVD.

Hi, my computer is stuck on a grey screen with the apple logo and a spinning wheel. so, i bought a new hard drive, a hdd cable and os x snow leopard ( since i didnt have any os x) . but when i try to to open the osx i just hear 3 beeps interval and nothing happen. how can i solve this problem thank you. could other things cause that problem besides bad ram. because i tried one of the rams on my windows computer and it did work

Louis, are you saying that the Pre-Installed MacOS: X 10.6.6 (10J3210) from the installation DVD will not work? I know nothing earlier will work. The retail 10.6 will not work because it is 10.6.3. I have never heard of getting 3 beeps from trying to install anything. Outside of the original DVD for this machine, the only way I know of (outside of cloning in Target Mode or a Target Mode installation) is to build a flash drive install of 10.6.6 or better. Will this machine connect via the internet by holding down the "R' key on start up and download a system?

If you want to burn Lion to a USB flash drive, plug it in and click on it in the left-hand sidebar in Disk Utility. Go to the Partition tab and select "1 Partition" from the dropdown menu. Choose "Mac OS Extended (Journaled) on the left.

I have a 8GB Kingstone flash drive but I don't know how to set it up so I can install Mac from it. I have the .iso image downloaded. On the internet I can only find how to do it from Mac but I don't have Mac installed.

I recommend you use MODCD to install an retail version of snow leopard on your pc then use macosx to install the iaktos image unless you want to get involved with dmg2img hfsplus programs and chameleon packages.

I wonder how much OpenCL helps in video playback especially on new MBPs with Nvidia 9400 M graphics. Has anyone tested how much one can reduce the CPU usage while watching videos on sites like CNN and Youtube? I am interested in knowing if the Adobe flash player eating of CPU is somehow reduced because of the OpenCL support in SL. Unfortunately I can't do this as my MB is not equipped with Nvidia GPU. If someone has noticed some improvement, please let me know

The GPU is weak and I believe Apple puts way too much attention on it. Yes it replaces a GPU that is several folds weaker but still if you want real computing power you would be looking at dedicated GPUs with dedicated high speed VRAM. Anyway here are answers to some of your questions. OpenCL does not make flash any faster since there isn't a single OpenCL instruction in Flash. I would even go so far as to say that GPU acceleration in the Mac version of Flash is only present in the configuration GUI but that's not what Adobe's been saying ... Anyway to me the CPU usage is more than a proof. With plugins such as ClickToFlash you can however see how much better things can be. I have a 2.4 GHz early 2008 MBP ( 8600gt 256mb ). The flash version of YouTube videos use about 50-60% of one of the cores and that's on a good day. At the same time the h.264 version (using the opengl version of QT ) uses about 15-16%. Not that I feel either one of them ( in any other way than fan noise ) but the lower CPU usage results in longer battery life.

Thanks for your reply. I actually meant any GPU from Nvidia not just 9400M. If I understood correctly you do observe less CPU load with OpenGL version of QT. Btw what OpenGl version of QT? Itried click2flash and it is very good but unfortunately it doesn't work with CNN site. Do you recommend other plugin etc. to reduce the CPU usage while watching flash movies? Yeah flash really sucks the battery life.
